MLT Seeks Founders

Marblehead Little Theatre is looking for any founders of the group who might still be in the area. MLT was born 50 years ago by the local Marblehead Women's Club when they decided to form a group to perform amateur theatrical performances. Their first performance was in Moss Hart's, Light up the Sky and the rest is history. From these humble beginnings, a 200 member group has taken shape.

We have been called the Biggest Little Theatre on the North Shore by North Shore Sunday. Our objective has been a simple one -to provide high quality live theatre to our community. Out of that simple goal has come a community theatre that has community at its core and provides educational and performing opportunities for people of all ages. The group attained non-profit status in 1973 and is one of the oldest continuously performing community theater groups in New England. MLT has won many awards for acting, directing, technical directing, lights, costumes and make-up at various festivals including the New England Theatre Conference, American Association of Community Theatres, and the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres. We are also among the founding members of the performing arts consortium artsnorth that includes the North Shore Music Theatre, Salem State College, Gloucester Stage and more.

In our 50th season we would like to celebrate our founders. Because of this small group of visionaries, MLT has taken possession of the firehouse at 12 School St. and is ready to provide many theatrical opportunities to our town. We would like to welcome these wonderful people to their new home. Please call Ginny Morton at 781-631-2737 to become part of the celebration. It will occur during the run of Peter Pan from November 4-20 at the Nelson Aldrich Performing Arts Center of the Marblehead Veterans Middle School.
