Richard Rodgers, a published songwriter by the age of 17,  Rodgers and Hart began collaborating in the 1920s. Between 1920 and 1943 they wrote dozens of musicals for the New York stage and Hollywood movies, including The Boys of Syracuse and Pal Joey.

The first Act will feature the greatest tunes of Rodgers and Hart many of which have become jazz standards.  Songs like Blue Moon. My Funny Valentine, The Lady is  Tramp,  Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, Manhattan and The Sweetest Sounds will be sung before intermission.

Rodgers and Hammerstein made a grand team for composing when they decided to work together on OKLAHOMA.    In the second Act you will hear favorites of the highly successful shows they wrote together.  CAROUSEL, STATE FAIR, SOUTH PACIFIC, FLOWER DRUM SONG, THE KING AND I, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and CINDERELLA were the result of 18years of a magical partnership.

Their work was revolutionary to the Broadway stage, because they wrote the first story driven, character centered musicals.   Previously musicals had been star vehicles but Rodgers and Hammerstein made them stories about characters.   The dialogue in the script naturally resulted in a song in a way shows never had before.

The beauty of these songs has never been surpassed in the musical theatre.    They live in our hearts reminding of a simpler more joyful time in American history.  So come to Marblehead Little Theatre this summer and be up lifted by the magnificent music of Richard Rodgers.
