Marblehead Little Theatre Presents

William Shakespeare's "The Tempest"

tempest_instore_print

Marblehead Little Theatre’s announces its upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, running August 16-25th.  The production is being produced by Susan Parker, designed by Evan DelGaudio, Isabella Batts and Elvira Schoenthal, and directed by Chris Martel, with assistant director Ari Conte. The cast includes  Geoff Pingree as Alonso, Sarah Mann as Sebastian, Ron Lacey as Prospero, Britt Mitchell as Antonio, Jackson Martel as Ferdinand, Steve Turner as Gonzalo, Geoff Van Wyck as Francisco, Stanis Johnson as Adrian, Isaiah Plovnick as Caliban, Tom Rash as Trinculo, Matthew Recine as Stephano, Emily Grove as Miranda and Jenna Forristall as Ariel.

The Tempest is widely believed to be the last play Shakespeare wrote, and is one of the most difficult to classify. The play deftly weaves comedy, tragedy, and romance together as we see King Alonso of Naples and his entourage wash up on a strange island following the wreck of the ship carrying them home from Tunis to Italy. The island is inhabited by the magician Prospero, formerly the Duke of Milan, who has deliberately conjured the storm and marooned the noblemen in a plot to enact vengeance on his usurping brother, Antonio. Meanwhile, a monster, a jester, and a drunken butler hatch a plan to depose Prospero and rule the island themselves.

The Tempest is a play filled with magic, music, laughter, intrigue, and danger. With it, Shakespeare explores themes of freedom, revenge, repentance, and forgiveness.

Performance dates are August 16, 17, 23, & 24 at 7:30 PM and August 18 & 25 at 2 PM.  Ticket prices are $23, $15 for students (matinees only).  Tickets will be available one month prior to opening night at the Spirit of '76 Bookstore and online at www.mltlive.org.
