All performances of Our Town are now sold out.
The Board of Directors of MLT is overwhelmed and touched by the response of the community to its first adult production. President Henry Dembowski said “People are really interested in what we have done with the space. The children’s classes brought a whole new crowd into Marblehead Little Theatre. Now with this dramatic production with an outstanding local cast, they can really see what their good wishes and financial support have made possible. We are thrilled!”

Janet Sheehan (Mrs. Gibbs) and Carolyn Harris (Mrs. Webb) are sharing a moment as neighbors and best friends while they shuck some beans for supper. Much of the action of “Our Town” is mimed in this heart warming story. The Thornton Wilder drama will be performed at the Marblehead Little Theatre, 12 School St., Marblehead from Mach 31-April 9. Auditions
Our Town will be directed by John Fogle
Auditions will be held Sunday, January 29th from 2:00 – 4:00pm
Monday, January 30th from 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Prepared audition pieces are acceptable, but not required. Cold readings will also be required.

Marblehead Little Theatre to present “Our Town”
MLT will proudly open their new School Street Firehouse Theater with Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town”. Production dates are set for March 31, April 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9. It will be directed by John Fogle.
Wilder came from an entire family of highly educated siblings. His father, Amos Parker Wilder, was a newspaper owner and editor, a powerful speaker and the US Consul to Hong Kong and Shanghai. Amos decided exactly which schools and colleges his children would attend and how they would spend their summers. His mother, Isabella Niven Wilder, was a cultured and educated woman and a vivid poet. She made sure her children had a literature, drama and language appreciation. As a result both Wilder and his brothers and sister became successful writers, poets or teachers.
“Our Town” opened on January 22, 1938 at the McCarter Theater in Princeton, NJ. After a few weeks in NJ, the show moved to the Henry Miller Theater in New York on February 4.
“Our Town” opens with the Stage Manager setting the stage as he narrates us through the story of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. He takes the audience through three days in the life of this small turn-of-the-century town. The story revolves around the Gibbs and Webb families and focuses on the life of George Gibbs and Emily Webb. The first act, set in 1901, relates the history of the town and introduces the audience to the Webb and Gibbs family as well as a variety of town folk. The second act, set in 1904, revolves around the courtship of Emily Webb and George Gibbs, and act 3, set in 1913, takes place in the cemetery, where we see the afterlife of a number of townspeople we have met.
Thornton Wilder said, of this show, “Our Town” is not offered as a picture of life in a New Hampshire village; or as a speculation about the conditions of life after death (that element I merely took from Dante’s Purgatory). It is an attempt to find a value above all price for the smallest events in our daily life.”
